The fund invests at least 80% of its total assets in the securities of the underlying index. The underlying index measures the performance of a hypothetical portfolio that employs a covered call strategy. A covered call strategy is generally considered to be an investment strategy in which an investor buys a security, and sells (or "writes") a call option on that security in an attempt to generate more income.

XYLD outperformed RYLD and QYLD in 2022 in yield on invested capital and total ROI. Since the beginning of 2021, XYLD has had the least losses from an initial investment perspective compared to RYLD and QYLD, but RYLD's distributions put RYLD ahead on total ROI.

I have previously recommended the XYLD Covered Call ETF as an alternative to the S&P 500 and continue to expect significant outperformance due to income received from call sales. The XYLD ETF is for U.S. focused investors who are happy to miss out on potential upside in favor of generating regular income, and now could be a great time for this.

In the last two months, XYLD has continued to underperform the S&P 500 by a significant degree, gaining only 4.15%. vs the S&P gaining 9.03% during the period. This is despite volatility reducing drastically over this period, going from a 33+ VIX in October to a hair below 19 in the last few days.
