Burcon NutraScience Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, develops plant proteins and ingredients for use in the food and beverage industries in Canada. The company's products include Peazazz, a pea protein for use in dairy alternatives, ready-to-drink beverages, dry blended beverages, bars, baked goods, and meat substitute products; and Peazac and Peazac 850, a pea protein for plant-based meat alternative products, ready-to-mix powders, ready-to-mix beverages, dairy alternatives, and nutrition bars, as well as other applications requiring the most neutral flavor and moderate viscosity. It provides Puratein, a canola protein isolate for use in meat alternatives, such as burgers, sausages, and nutrition bars; Supertein, a canola protein that is a light-colored powder for use in non-dairy frozen desserts, egg alternative, plant-based marshmallows and ready-to-mix beverages, whipped toppings, and plant-based bars; and Nutratein, a canola protein comprising a mixture of globulin and albumin proteins for use in meat and egg alternatives, and other plant-based functional foods. In addition, the company offers Nutratein-PS and Nutratein-TZ, a blend of Peazac pea protein; and CLARISOY, a soy protein for use in sports nutrition beverages, citrus-based drinks, fruit-flavored beverages, lemonades, powdered beverage mixes, and other foods and nutritional products. Further, it provides MeritPro, a nutritional protein blend, including allergen-free, gluten-free, non-dairy, non-GMO, and vegan. The company was formerly known as Burcon Capital Corp. and changed its name to Burcon NutraScience Corporation in October 1999. The company was incorporated in 1998 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.

Burcon NutraScience Corporation has announced that Aaron Ratner was elected to its board of directors at the company's annual general meeting held on November 23. The developer of plant-based proteins for foods and beverages said Ratner has over 20 years of domestic and international investment and advisory experience, including eight years in Asia, focusing on project finance, venture capital, climate technology, energy, and agriculture.

Burcon NutraScience Corporation has announced that its joint venture company, Merit Functional Foods Corporation, has partnered with Konscious Foods and Canadian Pacifico Seaweeds in a project co-invested by Protein Industries Canada, to develop a new line of high quality plant-based seafood alternative products. The new line of more than 20 products will incorporate Canadian-grown and processed ingredients, including Merit's pea and canola proteins and Canadian Pacifico Seaweeds' seaweed ingredients.

Burcon NutraScience Corp (TSX:BU) has appointed Kip Underwood, a seasoned veteran executive with over 25 years of experience in the food and specialty protein industry, as CEO effective November 7. At the same time, Peter H Kappel has relinquished his role as interim CEO and will remain as chair of the board of directors of the Vancouver-based plant protein company.

Burcon NutraScience Corp (TSX:BU, NASDAQ:BRCN) announced that it has received a notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a patent application covering the unique process of producing high-purity protein ingredients from non-soy oilseed, which includes the use of sunflower seed as the source material. The developer of plant-based proteins for foods and beverages said US patent application 16/071,653, which covers the unique processes to produce protein isolates from canola, sunflower, hemp, safflower, cottonseed, flax, sesame, mustard and peanut or any oilseed product or by-product derived from the processing of non-soy oilseeds, was allowed on July 19, 2022, and will be soon issued as a US granted patent.
